Inline speed skating world championships
The inline speed skating world championships are the major annual event for the best speed skaters in the world. The world championships are awarded and supervised by the world roller sport association Fédération Internationale de Roller Sports - FIRS.
A major change took place in the 1990s when the classic roller skates ( roller speed skates ) were replaced by the new inline skates . After a transition period in which both sports equipment could be used, hardly anyone still used roller skates (it is still allowed to start with roller skates in competitions).
Initially, the competition course on which the world championships were held was changed annually between a track and a street course. From 1992 came long haul nrennen ( Inline Marathon added), on a street circuit will be played. Since 1994, both rail and road championships have been held in the same year and mostly in the same city, interrupted by a day of rest.
The most successful athlete at the World Championships is the exceptional American athlete Chad Hedrick . In his career between 1994 and 2002 he won 50 world championship titles as well as silver and bronze medals. He gained fame for having mastered a peculiar running style. This style, initially called "chad", later became known as double push and the technical goal of every ambitious inline speed skater.
