Rainer Mackensen

Rainer Mackensen (born June 8, 1927 in Greifswald ; † December 18, 2018 ) was a German sociologist and population scientist .

Mackensen went to school in Riga , where his father Lutz Mackensen worked at the Herder Institute , Berlin and Posen, and studied at the universities of Göttingen and Tübingen . He then worked at the social research center at the University of Münster in Dortmund and qualified as a professor in Münster for sociology and population theory. From 1968 until his retirement in 1992 he was Professor of Sociology at the Technical University of Berlin .

One of the main focuses of his work was the history of the social sciences in the 20th century, especially population studies under National Socialism .

Mackensen had been a member of the Leibniz Society since 2003 .
