Van der Weijden started in Moscow for the first time in the speed skating world cup in November 2008 and finished eighth in group B over 5000 m. She was ninth at the 2012 European all- around championships in Budapest and eighth over 5000 m at the 2012 World Championships in Heerenveen . In the 2013/14 season she won her first World Cup victory in Heerenveen over 3000 m and at the end of the season she finished ninth in the World Cup over 3000/5000 m. At the highlight of the season, the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , she achieved fifth place over 3000 m. In the 2015/16 season she ran second place over 3000 m in Heerenveen to eighth place in the World Cup over 3000/5000 m. In March 2017, she took second place in the team pursuit at the World Cup in Stavanger . In the following year she came at the European Championships in Kolomna on the eighth place over 3000 m and on the fifth place in the mass start and at the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang on the 14th place in the mass start and on the fourth place over 5000 m. In January 2018 she became the Dutch champion in small four-way combat. At the all-around world championships in Amsterdam in March 2018 , she won the bronze medal.
