Matthew Morison (born April 7, 1987 in Burketon , Ontario ) is a Canadian snowboarder . His disciplines are parallel slalom and parallel giant slalom . Morison lives in his native city of Burketon, Ontario.

FIS races and Nor-Am Cup

Matthew Morison started in 2003 in FIS and North America Cup races in Canada and the United States . As early as March 2004, he achieved his first victory in a slalom in the Nor-Am Cup in Mount St. Louis Moonstone and he quickly established himself among the best. Shortly before that, Ontario was successful in an FIS race in the same ski area in his home country, and since then has always been among the top ten in this series, apart from one race. He achieved another victory in an FIS race in December 2008 at Patscherkofel in Innsbruck .

Success as a junior

His first start overseas was at the FIS Junior World Championships 2005 in Zermatt , where he finished fifth in the parallel giant slalom. He achieved the same place in 2006 in Vivaldi Park in Korea . At his last Junior World Championships in Bad Gastein in 2007 he won the title in the parallel slalom and the runner-up in the parallel giant slalom.

In the world cup

He made his World Cup debut in the 2005/2006 season with a 30th and a 47th place in the Le Relais ski area in Québec . In the following season he took part regularly in the competitions in the World Cup. The first top ten place in Bad Gastein was followed a short time later in January 2007 by the first podium finishes with third place in Nendaz, Switzerland and second place in Schukolowo ( Russia ). The following race in Furano was finally won by Morison. His greatest successes up to then had been in the slalom, but the first World Cup victory was a giant slalom. He celebrated his second victory at the parallel giant slalom in Valmalenco at the last race of the 2008 season. Before that, he was third on the podium in both Gujō and Stoneham and finished seventh in Sungwoo (Korea). In the overall World Cup, the results in the parallel slalom and giant slalom discipline were already ninth in 2006, eighth in 2007 and fourth in the discipline and sixth overall in 2008.

The 2009 season began Morsion with 20th place in the opening race in Landgraaf in the slalom. In Limone Piemonte he won again in the giant slalom and with ninth place in Arosa was able to consolidate a top place in the overall World Cup and second place in the discipline ranking, just behind Siegfried Grabner and tied with Adam Smith . In Kreischberg Morsion remained without a top position, but was able to celebrate his greatest success at the Snowboard World Championships in Gangwon when he finished third in the parallel giant slalom behind his compatriot Jasey-Jay Anderson and the French Sylvain Dufour .
