Nendaz ( Valais patois , dt. Neind or Nendaz ) is a municipality and a civic community in the Swiss canton of Valais (Fr .: Valais ) in the district of Conthey .
geography
The municipality of Nendaz includes 15 villages, which are located at different altitudes between the Rhône plain ( 460 m above sea level ) such as B. Aproz and the highest village Siviez at 1730 m above sea level. M. The most important town is Haute-Nendaz (German Ober-Neind). The highest point in the municipality is the summit of Rosablanche at 3336 m above sea level. In contrast to Haute-Nendaz, the district of Aproz lies at the foot of the steep mountain slope in the Rhone Valley. A road from Basse-Nendaz (Eng. Unter-Neind) leads over the district of Fey on a serpentine road to Aproz, where the Printse from Siviez flows into the Rhône.
The summit of Dent de Nendaz ( 2,463 m above sea level ) rises south of the main settlement area of Haute-Nendaz / Nendaz Station . At its northern slope there is a cableway to surge Tracouet ( 2250 m above sea level. M. ) including a stop of the pressure line (with world-record drop of 1,883 m) from the Lac des Dix to Bieudron power plant ( 481 m above sea level. M. is).
From the district of Nendaz Station , which is directly connected to Haute-Nendaz, an orbit with 12-person gondolas runs up the steep Tracouet mountain spur ( 2200 m above sea level ). Here a chairlift leads further south to Alp Prarion ( 1839 m above sea level ). Between Tracouet and Dent de Nendaz is the Lac Noir mountain lake ( 2171 m above sea level ), which is believed to be fed by an underground glacier on the northern slope of Dent de Nendaz.
Further south, about 700 m from Lac Noir, the Balavaux alpine farm is located on the alp of the same name, in the vicinity of which there are still isolated larches that are up to about a thousand years old. There should be around 250 trees of different ages here.

history
The oldest mention of the villages of Basse-Nendaz and Haute-Nendaz is in a document dated March 19, 985. At that time they belonged to Conthey . From around 1250 a separate community developed. Most of today's borders date from this era. In 1798 the community joined the canton of Valais .

Attractions
- Japanese Garden, a natural landscape with a scree field in the Tortin Valley .

- Mont Fort , a mountain peak at 3329 m above sea level that can be reached by cable car. M. in the Valais Alps, which is partially on the municipality.
- Tracouet , lookout point and the upper station of a gondola and a ski lift.

Today Haute-Nendaz and Siviez form a large holiday area with around 19,500 beds. This puts the municipality of Nendaz in 6th place in the Valais. The 4 Vallées ski area , to which the facilities and slopes in Nendaz belong, comprises around 400 km of alpine ski slopes with 83 facilities and around 50 km of cross-country trails. In summer there is a marked network of hiking trails with a length of 250 km at all levels of the municipality. These include paths along eight bisses (French: Bisses ) between 800 m above sea level. M. and 2200 m above sea level. M. The most important of these is the Bisse de Saxon .
Tourism favored the regional real estate industry with fluctuating rates of return. These construction activities have led to urban sprawl in the touristy municipality of Nendaz and other places. As a result, negative effects on agriculture, the landscape and nature are expected.
Manufacturing areas
In the area of the municipality of Nendaz, mineral water is pumped that is bottled in Aproz. Depending on the source, it is sold under the name Aproz or Nendaz . The mineral water company Aproz Sources Minérales has been part of Migros since 1958 .
In the areas of the municipality near the valley, fruit is grown seasonally . The focus is on the slope side apricot plantations . Furthermore raspberries grown.
From the energy sector, the Nendaz and Bieudron power plants (both in the municipality of Riddes ) are involved in electricity production. The Cleuson reservoir ( Barrage de Cleuson ) is part of the overall water management system in the municipal area of Nendaz.
