In 1815 the Conthey district was created through the merger of the areas of the former Kastlanei ( Landvogtei ) and the communities of Ardon and Chamoson .

Local specialties are smoked trout, lamb, alpine cheese and pastries. It is also worth mentioning the most diverse types of wine and their cultivation as well as their own climate, fauna, flora and geology.
