Aproz is a village in the municipality of Nendaz in the Swiss canton of Valais .
Geography and history
Aproz lies at 492 m above sea level. M. on the left bank of the Rhone just a few kilometers southwest of the canton capital Sion . It is the only village in the municipality that is located in the Rhone Valley and therefore also the lowest. On the southern flank of the village, the Printze emerges from its gorge-like valley into the Rhone plain. To the east, but already beyond the municipal boundary, is a former gravel pit that is now filled with water.
In the 16th century, a tufa was quarried near Aproz , which was used for building stone houses in Valais and which the stonemasons used to make decorative window and door frames. The work of the builder Ulrich Ruffiner is closely connected to this rock. In Aproz there are three disused mines ( pyrite and anthracite ) on the right bank of the Printze .
The largest company is the mineral water manufacturer Aproz Sources Minérales of Migros .
Culture and sights
Every year in May there is a cow fight with Eringer cows ( French combat de reines ).
There is a Catholic church in Aproz (1947, dedicated to Niklaus von Flüe ).
