Ulrich Ruffiner

Ulrich Ruffiner (* between 1480 and 1483 in Alagna Valsesia or Riva Valdobbia ; † between 1549 and 1556 in Glis ) was an important master builder in the Valais in the 16th century.

Live and act

He built houses, churches, bridges and streets in what is now the Swiss canton of Valais . Of the 35 buildings that Ulrich Ruffiner worked on between 1505/1507 and 1549, the sacred building is represented most frequently with 18 objects. Its road and bridge construction is of particular importance, as it made new traffic connections possible in the mountain area that was then difficult to access. The “Chibrücke” near Stalden is still preserved and respected today. Ruffiner died between 1549 and 1556 when he fell from the church tower.
