Architectural monuments
The center is the Roman Catholic parish church of St. Hilarius, including the ossuary chapel of St. Joseph (1735) and the churchyard. The building history of the bell tower goes back to the 13th century; it is believed to be the remainder of an earlier church. The nave and the choir were rebuilt in the Gothic style between 1527 and 1547, the interior and part of the exterior facade of the church were redesigned in the 18th century. The parish of Mörel has always been independent.
Fusion with fillet
On February 24, 2008, a referendum decided to merge Mörel with the much larger neighboring municipality of Filet. In Filet, 73 percent of the votes were in favor, while in Mörel it was 93 percent in favor. One reason for the overwhelming approval in Mörel is that its residents will benefit from the merger, as the net debt in Mörel is around 10,000 francs per capita and will practically be halved with the merger. For filet, on the other hand, the per capita debt increases from around 2,600 francs to around 5,700 francs in the merged community.
