Bitsch is a political municipality and a civic municipality with Burgerrart in the district of Ostlich Raron in the German-speaking part of the canton of Valais in Switzerland . The village has with Mörel-Filet a common parish .
history
First mention finds the Bisse "Bitscheri" which is still in operation today, in the year 1408. The chapel of the Virgin Mary in the small hamlet of Wasen was built 1657th The burger house in Wasen was built in 1703. In 1730, the pilgrimage chapel "Mariae 7 Sorrows", Zen Hohen Flüehen, was built.
In 1799 there was a battle against the French near the old Massabrücke in Massaboden . Archaeological finds of national importance were made in 1951/52 and 2002 in a 10,000 m² area.
Bitsch and Ried were a political municipality until 1889 . The Hennebique Canal, the oldest concrete structure of its kind in Switzerland, was built in 1898. In 1915/16 the Massaboden power plant was built in Massaboden .
When the Electra-Massa power plant was built in 1964, the Gibidum reservoir was created . The dam is 120 meters high. From 1975 the construction of holiday homes boomed. Today these are mostly inhabited by locals. In 1977 the Brother Klaus Church was built in Massaboden.
