Mörel-Filet is a political municipality and a civic municipality with a civic council in the district of Ostlich Raron in the German-speaking part of the canton of Valais in Switzerland .
geography
Mörel-Filet is located in Upper Valais on the banks of the Rhone about 10 kilometers northeast of Brig. The community consists of the two parts Mörel on the northwest bank of the Rhone and Filet southeast of the Rhone. Numerous hamlets belong to Filet, including Breiten, Halte and Pfäwi.
The municipal area covers an area of 8.44 km², of which 43.7% are covered with forest and wood, 24.9% are used for agriculture and 6.1% for settlements.
The municipality borders in the north on Bettmeralp , in the north-northeast on Grengiols , in the east on Bister , in the south and southwest on Termen and in the northwest on Riederalp .
history
The municipality Mörel-Filet was on 1 January 2009 from the two previous communities Mörel VS and Filet VS formed. The voters of Mörel approved the merger with 93%, the voters of Filet with 73%. The reason for the lower approval in Filet was among other things the higher indebtedness of Mörel.
