Tasek

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tasek (* 1973 in Braunschweig ; actually Gerrit Peters ) is a graffiti artist, illustrator and graphic designer. He has lived and worked in Hamburg since 1997 .

Life

The first graffiti work in public space began in the mid-1980s.

In 1999 Tasek founded the getting-up studio community in Hamburg together with the artists Mirko Reisser (DAIM) and Heiko Zahlmann . For more than fifteen years, the artist collective has been realizing projects that have also attracted international attention.

“Gerrit Peters, alias TASEK, also began his artistic career as a graffiti artist in the 80s. The content of his art is always the creative disregard of socially imposed limits. TASEK breaks through stylistic and methodological boundaries, combining spray technology with the technique of screen printing. This can also be seen in his two works “minimal” and “screensaver”, topics such as overinformation, mass society, excess and consumption play a central role in TASEK's art. With typographical means, clear colors and reduced forms, TASEK sets a counterpoint to the flood of information in public space. "

- Markus Lojen: White tigers, graffiti and Buddhist gods , University of Mannheim, August 2012.

His works are represented in art collections, including the Reinking Collection .

Projects

In 2006 Tasek took part in the sculpture @ CityNord sculpture project in Hamburg, curated by Rik Reinking . In 2007 he realized a sculpture made of 3000 PET bottles as part of the Dockville art camp in Hamburg.

Urban Discipline exhibitions

The Urban Discipline exhibitions, the first of which was conceptualized, curated and organized by Gerrit Peters in collaboration with Heiko Zahlmann and Mirko Reisser in 2000 , are among the most important graffiti exhibitions worldwide. Os Gêmeos spoke of a great project in interviews. Urban Discipline was one of the first and still largest graffiti exhibitions ever carried out, which also helped artists like Daniel Man and Banksy to take an important career step. It was important to the organizers to fight for its establishment as an art form at a time when graffiti was no longer just a scribble but was still not really taken seriously. International stars of the scene came to Hamburg for the first exhibition. The most important representatives of the international graffiti and street art scene then gathered for the next two years, during which the project was still organized by getting-up . In 2001, Os Gêmeos from Brazil and Martha Cooper from New York, artists from all over the republic as well as from Brazil, Austria, France, the USA and Switzerland exhibited in the Alte Postortierhalle on Hamburg's Stephansplatz . In 2002 again 34 international artists from all over the world came together to exhibit on 1700 square meters in the Astra halls in the Hamburg district of St. Pauli.

Mural Global

As part of Mural Global , a worldwide Wandmalprojekt to Agenda 21 , Tasek realized in 2001, together with the Brazilian graffiti artists Os Gêmeos , Vitché , Herbert Baglione and Nina Pandolfo and with the German graffiti artists Loomit , Codeak and DAIM , a 300 m² mural in São Paulo. The mural is located under a viaduct of the Beneficência Portuguesa hospital on Avenida 23 de Maio and includes the theme of air, earth, water and fire . 80 murals have so far been created as part of the Mural Global mural project .

An initiative of Farbfieber eV Düsseldorf, under the patronage of UNESCO . The project was awarded the Socioculture Innovation Prize 2002 by the Socioculture Fund.

Dock Art

Tasek realized the Dock-Art project in a team of 9 other artists, in collaboration with Lothar Knode . The 2000 m² graffiti was unveiled in 2001 opposite the Landungsbrücken at the Port of Hamburg on the outer wall of Dock 10 of the Blohm + Voss shipyard .

Social

Together with the getting-up studio community, Tasek has already implemented several charitable projects: he cooperated with Gefangene haben helfen Jungs eV on a project that included the visualization of the basic idea of the association. The association works within the prison and aims to bring young people closer to everyday life in a correctional facility.

The Jamliner is a project of the State Youth Music School Hamburg and the MusikSchulVereins eV , the sponsoring association of the youth music school. Young people from the age of twelve from socially disadvantaged districts of Hamburg can attend a “rolling music school” directly on site and free of charge.

With the graffiti and street art workshop Stylekickz , once a year young people had the opportunity to realize an artistic project with professional support in order to gain qualifications in real-life topics.

And we are still very grateful for this opportunity back then. There, too, we got to know a lot of interesting writers from Germany and all over Europe. Thanks to DAIM , Tasek, Daddy Cool , Stohead and many others who worked really hard for it. We know that, it was a feat to make it all possible. Everything went very well, everyone helped everyone, no competition among each other, it was really a very good atmosphere. It was nice to be able to make our contribution and to be able to show a piece of Brazilian graffiti as part of the exhibition. We noticed very quickly that many did not even know that there was graffiti in Brazil, let alone something of life with us. Some of them didn't understand our work at all back then. We still have a lot of respect for what happened in Hamburg back then. A great project with a great story behind it. Urban Discipline has actually been one of the first and still largest gallery exhibitions that have combined graffiti art, style and a professional presentation perfectly and successfully. For many this event was an important step for more, Daniel Man , DAIM and also Banksy ! "
