getting-up

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

getting-up is an artist and studio community founded in Hamburg in 1999 , consisting of the artists Mirko Reisser (DAIM), Gerrit Peters (Tasek) and Heiko Zahlmann (Rkt one). The artist collective, all artists are well-known graffiti-writing artists, have been organizing and realizing joint projects and wall designs that have also attracted international attention for more than fifteen years. From 2000, the graffiti artist Stohead (Christoph Hässler) was also part of the community until he moved to Berlin in 2006.

Projects

In addition to various large wall designs, mainly in Hamburg, getting-up also regularly realizes projects to which other graffiti and street art artists are invited.

Urban Discipline

For example, getting-up organized and realized the Urban Discipline exhibitions on graffiti and street art in Hamburg between 2000 and 2002 . The Urban Discipline is one of the world's most important graffiti exhibitions. It was important to the organizers to fight for its establishment as an art form at a time when graffiti was no longer just scribble, but was still not really taken seriously. Getting-up brought out a book publication for each of the exhibitions.

Stylekickz

With the graffiti and street art workshop Stylekickz organized by the artist group , once a year young people had the opportunity to realize an artistic project with professional support in order to gain qualifications in real-life topics.

And we are still very grateful for this opportunity back then. There, too, we got to know a lot of interesting writers from Germany and all over Europe. Thanks to DAIM , Tasek , Daddy Cool , Stohead and many others who worked really hard for it. We know that, it was a feat to make it all possible. Everything went very well, everyone helped everyone, no competition among each other, it was really a very good atmosphere. It was nice to be able to make our contribution and to be able to show a piece of Brazilian graffiti as part of the exhibition. We noticed very quickly that many did not even know that there was graffiti in Brazil, let alone something of life here. Some of them didn't understand our work at all back then. We still have a lot of respect for what happened in Hamburg back then. A great project with a great story behind it. Urban Discipline has actually been one of the first and still largest gallery exhibitions that have combined graffiti art, style and a professional presentation perfectly and successfully. For many this event was an important step for more, Daniel Man , DAIM and also Banksy ! "
