Manuel Seabra

Manuel Jose de Faria Seabra (born July 28, 1962 in Matosinhos , † January 1, 2014 in Porto ) was a Portuguese politician (PS) . He was a member of parliament, briefly mayor of Matosinhos and deputy mayor of Lisbon .

Live and act

Seabra was born in Matosinhos in 1962. After studying law , he initially worked as a lawyer and joined the Juventude Socialista (JS), the youth organization of the Portuguese socialists. In 1988 he first became an advisor to the mayor of Matosinhos, and since 1994 he has been city councilor for town planning and urban development and deputy mayor there. He held these offices until 2004. From 1999 to 2000 he was first mayor of the city of Matosinhos for one year.

Between 2004 and 2008 he worked as a lawyer again until he became Deputy Mayor of Lisbon for a few months in 2008 under the aegis of António Costa , the mayor of Lisbon. In 2009 he ran for a post in the national parliament for the constituency of Porto and was elected. He held his mandate until June 2013, but had to let it rest as he was no longer able to exercise the office due to an advanced illness. He was also a member of various committees, such as the constitutional and human rights committee of the Portuguese parliament.

On January 1, 2014, he died in Porto of complications from his cancer and was buried in his hometown of Matosinhos.
