Philp took part in FIS races for the first time in winter 2007/2008 and was also used in the Nor-Am Cup from the following season . In 2009 Calgary- based Philp was accepted into the Alberta Ski Team, of which he was a member for two years. After first victories at FIS races in March 2010, he first achieved placements among the top 20 in the Nor-Am Cup in the 2010/11 season and, towards the end of the season, achieved his first top 10 result in the giant slalom in Whistler with eighth place . At the Junior World Championships , in which he participated from 2010 to 2012, his best result was fourth place in the slalom in 2012 .
Philp has been studying at the University of Denver in the United States since autumn 2011 . On December 9, 2011, he celebrated his first victory in the Nor-Am Cup by winning the super combined in Nakiska . By the end of the 2011/12 season he achieved a second victory and three more podium places in the Nor-Am Cup, placing him third in the overall and slalom rankings and second in the giant slalom and super combination rankings. His first and this winter only World Cup start he had on January 8, 2012 in the slalom in Adelboden , where he did not qualify for the second round. At the end of March 2012, he won his first Canadian championship title in slalom . Philp has been a member of the Canadian national team since the 2012/2013 season.

At the Junior World Championship in 2013 Philp won the bronze medal in the team competition. He took his first World Cup point on December 8, 2013, finishing 30th in the giant slalom at Beaver Creek . Somewhat surprisingly, he won the silver medal in the team competition at the 2015 World Cup . His best World Cup result so far is fifth place in the combination of Bansko on February 22, 2019.
