Brendan Joseph Green (born November 4, 1986 in Hay River ) is a retired Canadian biathlete .

Career

Brendan Green started cross-country skiing at the age of three. Nine years later he switched to biathlon, where Pat Bobinski became his first coach. The athlete from Hay River, who trains in Canmore , starts for Hay River Nordic and is trained by Matthias Ahrens , ran his first international race in the 2004 European Junior Biathlon Cup. In 2005 he took part in his first of two Junior World Championships. In Kontiolahti his best individual result was a 15th place in the sprint, but with the relay, which also included Marc-André Bédard and Maxime Leboeuf , he won the silver medal behind Norway. Two years later in Martell he won the bronze medal in the relay race with the relay, which now also includes Yannick Letailleur . With a 16th place in the sprint and 12th in the pursuit and individual, the Canadian also achieved good results in the individual races.

Internationally, Green has been running in the adult sector since 2007. Here he ran the first races as part of the Biathlon European Cup , where he was 25th in the Obertilliach singles in 2008 for the first time. Green made his debut in the Biathlon World Cup at the first relay race of the 2008/09 season in Hochfilzen , where he finished seventh with a surprisingly strong Canadian team led by Robin Clegg , Scott Perras and Jean-Philippe Leguellec . He was also 98th of the individual. In a single in Antholz 2010, Green came in 19th and won World Cup points for the first time. Two years later, Brendan Green was able to reach the top ten for the first time in a sprint in Oslo in ninth place.

In Canada, Green started with adults for a long time. In 2001 he won his first title as Canadian individual champion. In 2003 the title followed in the sprint, in 2007 he won again in the individual and became runner-up in the sprint. In total, he has won eight medals at Canadian biathlon championships so far. In 2007 he also won the 15 kilometer skating style title among cross-country skiers. In the summer he started at the North American Roller Ski Biathlon Championships 2008 in Canmore and finished fifth in the individual. Brendan Green won his first World Cup points in an individual in Antholz in the 2009/2010 season with 19th place . Also in the following sprint he won 34th points over the weekend and improved his best result in the pursuit race to 14th. Brendan Green took part in the 2010 Olympic Winter Games . At his only start, he finished 10th in the relay.

In 2012, Green was named Canadian Biathlete of the Year .

At the 2016 Biathlon World Championships in Oslo, he was the last runner of the Canadian relay, which still included Christian Gow , Nathan Smith and Scott Gow , who won a bronze medal.

Brendan Green ended his career after the relay race in February 2019 at his home in Canmore.
