Jean-Philippe Leguellec started biathlon in 1999 as a 13-year-old Royal Air Cadet . He was discovered by his future coach Daniel Lefebvre in races at local level . The Gatineau student starts for the Courcelette association . Leguellec has been a member of the Canadian national team since 2003. His first Junior World Championships were in Kościelisko in 2003 , here an eleventh place in the pursuit was his best result. The 2004 Junior World Championships in Haute-Maurienne were very successful for Leguellec. In the individual he was fourth, in the sprint he won the gold medal, in the pursuit silver behind Emil Hegle Svendsen . He also won silver with the relay. In 2005 he started in Kontiolahti at his third Junior World Championships and won bronze here again with the relay. He also competed in the Junior European Cup, usually with rather mediocre success. His last Junior World Championships were held in Presque Isle in 2006 . Here he was fourth in the individual and won bronze in the sprint.

The Canadian has been competing in the Biathlon World Cup since the 2005/06 season . His first result was 71st place in a sprint in Östersund . Highlight of the season was the 2006 Olympic Games of Turin . In the individual Leguellec was 48th, in the sprint 59th 2007 he started for the first time at the biathlon world championships . In the individual he was 40th, in the sprint 64th and with the relay 17. In the World Cup it took until the second World Cup station in Hochfilzen in the 2007/08 season , where he was 23rd in the sprint for the first time to win World Cup points. The Canadian achieved a good result as fifth in the sprint race at the 2008 Summer Biathlon World Championships in Haute Maurienne. In the first sprint of the 2008/09 season in Antholz , Leguellec came seventh in a pursuit race, his best position to date, and eighth in Hochfilzen. It was by far the best season for the Canadian, in the overall standings he reached 32nd place. The 2009/10 season was also very successful . Leguellec achieved six of his nine best results this season, including a sixth place in the Vancouver sprint . It was also his best result at the Winter Olympics in his Canadian homeland, where he was the only starter in his country in the individual races. In the pursuit he was eleventh, in the individual 13th and only in the mass start he reached a less good position with the last place in 30th. With Robin Clegg , Marc-André Bédard and Brendan Green , Leguellec also came in a respectable tenth place in the relay competition. In the summer of the Canadian won in Jericho at the North American Biathlon Rollerski Cup 2010 both titles in sprint and pursuit. After the games, he fell ill with glandular fever . The following season he could not build on the performance of the previous year.

At the start of the 2012/2013 World Cup in Östersund, Jean-Philippe Leguellec was able to win the sprint race over 10 km and celebrated his first victory in the World Cup, making him the outstanding athlete of an increasingly stronger Canadian team.

After returning from the 2014 Olympics in Sochi , Leguellec announced the end of his career.
