Kaitlyn Lawes (born December 16, 1988 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) is a Canadian curler .

Career

She won the Canadian Junior Championships twice in a row with her team and qualified for the Junior World Curling Championships . There she won bronze and silver.

In the 2009/2010 season she played third in the team of Skip Cathy King . After the 2010 World Cup, she replaced Cathy Overton-Clapham in Jennifer Jones' team .

On February 20, 2014, she won the gold medal in Jennifer Jones' team at the Winter Olympics in Sochi . Canada beat Sweden 6-3.

At the 2015 World Cup in Sapporo , she moved into the final with the team led by Jennifer Jones, but lost there 3: 5 against the Swiss team around Skip Alina Pätz .

Lawes has participated in the Canadian Tournament of Hearts women's championships several times for the province of Manitoba . In 2015 she won the gold medal, in 2011 and 2013 the silver medal and in 2012 and 2016 the bronze medal.

In January 2018 she won the Canadian Mixed Doubles Olympic Trials together with John Morris and represented Canada in this first-ever competition at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang . The Canadian duo took first place in the Round Robin with six wins and one loss. In the semi-finals they beat Norway 8: 4 and in the final they won the gold medal by beating the Swiss team with Jenny Perret and Martin Rios 10: 3 .

At the 2018 World Championships in North Bay , Canada , she became world champion with the Canadian team led by Jennifer Jones. The Canadians remained undefeated in the Round Robin, defeated the American team led by Jamie Sinclair in the semifinals and beat Sweden 7: 6 in the final with Skip Anna Hasselborg .
