John Morris (born December 16, 1978 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) is a Canadian curler and Olympic champion . He currently plays as Skip .

Career

Morris began his international career at the 1998 Junior World Championship, which he won as a skip on the Canadian team. This success was repeated in the following year.

At the 2008 World Curling Championships in Grand Forks , Morris won the gold medal as third in Kevin Martin 's team. In the final, the Canadians defeated Scotland with Skip David Murdoch . The following year, Morris moved into the final again with Martin, but this time defeated Murdoch and the Scottish team.

Morris won the Canadian Olympic Curling Trails on December 13, 2009 with the team of Skip Kevin Martin, Second Marc Kennedy , Lead Ben Hebert , Alternate Adam Enright and represented Canada at the XXI with this team . Winter Olympics in curling. With eleven wins in eleven games, they finally won the gold medal in a superior manner. In the final they defeated Norway ( Skip : Thomas Ulsrud ).

At the 2015 World Cup , he played third on the Canadian team under Skip Pat Simmons . The Canadians moved into the play-offs but lost the semi-finals against Sweden. In the game for third place against Finland with Skip Aku Kauste they won 8: 4.

In January 2018 he won the Canadian Mixed Doubles Olympic Trials together with Kaitlyn Lawes and represented Canada in this first-ever competition at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang . The Canadian duo took first place in the Round Robin with six wins and one loss. In the semi-finals they beat Norway 8: 4 and in the final they won the gold medal by beating the Swiss team with Jenny Perret and Martin Rios 10: 3 . In October 2018 it was announced that Morris will probably only compete in the mixed double.
