Benjamin ("Ben") Hebert (born March 16, 1983 in Regina , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian curler and Olympic champion . He currently plays the lead position in Kevin Koe's team .
Hebert began his international career at the 2003 Junior World Championship in Flims , where he won the gold medal as a substitute for Skip Steve Laycock 's team. In the adults he first played in Pat Simmons' team , but then moved to Kevin Martin's team in 2006 to play the lead . With this team he won the Canadian championship The Brier in 2008 and subsequently as a representative of Canada at the 2008 World Cup in Grand Forks by a final victory against the Scots around David Murdoch the gold medal. In 2009 Hebert was Canadian champion with Team Martin. At the 2009 World Cup , there was a new edition of the final meeting of the previous year; this time the Scots could prevail with David Murdoch with 7: 6.
Hebert won the Canadian Olympic Curling Trails on December 13, 2009 with the team of Skip Kevin Martin, Third John Morris , Second Marc Kennedy , Alternate Adam Enright and represented Canada at the XXI with this team . 2010 Winter Olympics in curling. With eleven wins in eleven games they finally won the gold medal superiorly; in the final they defeated Norway with Skip Thomas Ulsrud .
In 2014, Hebert joined Kevin Koe's team with Marc Kennedy to play the lead position. After winning the Canadian Championship in 2016 by beating Brad Gushue's team in the final , he took part in the 2016 World Championship for Canada in Basel . The team won ten of the eleven games of the Round Robin and beat the Danish team around Rasmus Stjerne in the page playoff game 1st against 2nd as well as in the final. At the Canadian Championship 2017 he was able to move into the final again, but lost to Brad Gushue's team.
In November 2017 he won the Canadian elimination competition ( Roar of the Rings ) with Team Koe by beating Mike McEwen's team in the final and represented together with his teammates Kevin Koe ( Skip ), Marc Kennedy ( Third ) and Brent Laing ( Second ) Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang . The team was in second place after six wins and three defeats after the Round Robin . In the semifinals, the Canadians lost to Team USA led by John Shuster and the game for third place against Switzerland with Skip Peter de Cruz was also lost. It was the first time a Canadian men's team failed to win a medal at the Winter Olympics.
