Brent Laing (born December 10, 1978 in Meaford , Ontario ) is a Canadian curler . He is currently playing second in John Epping's team .

Career

Laing began his career as a lead in the John Morris team , with whom he won the 1998 and 1999 Junior World Championships . In 2002 he was with this team for the first time in the final of the Canadian men's championship The Brier and won the silver medal.

In 2004 Laing moved to Glenn Howard's team to play at the second position. With this team he became world champion twice : in 2007 with a final victory against the German team around Andreas Kapp and in 2012 with a victory over the Scottish team around Tom Brewster . In 2007 and 2012 he won the Canadian championship; In 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2011 he won the silver medal and in 2009 and 2013 the bronze medal.

For the 2014/2015 season, Laing moved to Kevin Koe's team . After winning the Canadian Championship in 2016 by beating Brad Gushue's team in the final , he took part in the 2016 World Championship in Basel with Team Koe for Canada . The team won ten of the eleven games of the Round Robin and beat the Danish team around Rasmus Stjerne in the page playoff game 1st against 2nd as well as in the final. At the Canadian Championship 2017 he was able to move into the final again, but lost to Brad Gushue.

In November 2017, he and Team Koe won the Canadian Roar of the Rings by beating Mike McEwen's team in the final and represented Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang . The team was in second place after six wins and three defeats after the Round Robin . In the semifinals, the Canadians lost to Team USA led by John Shuster and the game for third place against Switzerland with Skip Peter de Cruz was also lost. It was the first time a Canadian men's team failed to win a medal at the Winter Olympics.

In spring 2018 he announced his move to John Epping's team.

Private life

Laing is married to the equally successful curler Jennifer Jones . The two have two children.
