Andreas "Andy" Kapp (born December 8, 1967 in Sonthofen ) is a former successful German curler and the older brother of Ulrich Kapp . Following in the footsteps of his father Charlie Kapp , he came to curling in 1981 and has been playing for the curling department of EV Füssen since 1985 and since 1992 for the Füssen curling club in "Team Kapp". He is two-time European champion and fourteen-time German champion.

biography

In 1985 Andy Kapp started his international career with the 7th place at the Junior World Championships in Perth / Scotland, followed by participation in the Junior World Championship 1987, the demonstration competitions of the Olympic Games in Calgary in 1988 and the Men's World Championships in 1990 and 1991. To the surprise of many Kapp and his newly formed team won the gold medal at the 1992 European Championships in Perth, Scotland . The following year he was only seventh, but reached third place at the 1994 World Cup in Oberstdorf. He repeated this success in 1995 in Brandon, Canada . Two years later, at the 1997 World Cup in Bern , Kapp showed his best performance at World Championships and won the silver medal; in the final he was defeated by the Swedish team with Skip Peter Lindholm . In the same year he became European champion for the second time in Füssen . At the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano / Japan, his team only finished eighth.

From 2002 to 2005, Kapp and his Füssen team lost seven national eliminations in a row against the long-term rivals from EC Oberstdorf with Skip Sebastian Stock. His comeback four years later was crowned with success: he won the bronze medal at the 2005 World Cup in Victoria . Kapp took part in the 2006 Winter Olympics, but could not qualify for the semifinals. At the 2007 World Cup in Edmonton , Canada , he finished second with his team behind the team from Canada .

Kapp played his third Winter Olympics in Vancouver in 2010 . The team took sixth place. At the 2011 World Cup , Kapp and his team took sixth place. Then Kapp ended his curling career in the men's field, but was in use at mixed world and European championships and world cups with different teams.

Team Kapp

From 1983 to 2011 Andy Kapp was Skip of his self-founded team. Until 2009 only members of the EV / CC Füssen were represented, from 2010 a community of players with the EC Oberstdorf was formed. In total, the team won the German men's championship fourteen times and thus formed the German national team at international tournaments for many years. There have been several medal wins at European and World Championships.
