Andreas "Al" Lang (born April 26, 1979 in Schwenningen ) is a former German curler .

Career

Lang came to curling in 1995 through a school project and began his successful career at the Schwenningen Curling Club . As a skip of the juniors he was German vice-champion in 1998 and 2000, and in 1999 German champion. He led the men's team of CC Schwenningen to the German runner-up in 2001 and to the German champion in 2003.

Due to a semester abroad in Canada during his studies and the associated absence in 2005, he switched to Andreas Kapp's team at the Curling Club Füssen after his return in 2006 . In addition to other national successes - German champions in 2007 and 2008, the team was runner-up at the 2007 World Championships in Edmonton, Canada.

Lang played his first Winter Olympics in Vancouver in 2010 . The team took sixth place.

At the World Cup in 2011 , "Team Kapp" appeared for the last time together. After Skip Andreas Kapp and Holger Höhne left , Lang Skip joined the new "Team Allgäu". Other team members were Daniel Neuner (lead), Markus Messenzehl (second), Daniel Herberg (third) and Andreas Kempf (alternate).

With the participation in the European Curling Championship 2012, Lang and his new team contested the first international tournament. With the completely disappointing ninth place out of ten participants, the German team was relegated from the A group for the first time and had to compete in the B group at the upcoming European Championship.

At the beginning of 2013 he announced " It has recently been getting harder to reconcile sport, work and family " and thus the end of his career after the German Championship.

Private

Lang lives with his wife Karin in Alterschrofen, Schwangau municipality in the Ostallgäu . He is committed to promoting young talent as a coach at the annual curling summer camp in Füssen, with over 250 participants, 120 of whom are juniors from all over the world.

Professional

Long studied at the Hochschule in Karlsruhe mechanical engineering and completed his graduate engineer successfully with 1.3 in 2006 from. During his studies he worked on the project of a curling machine for two years and developed a “curling stone dispensing machine”. Professionally he works in research.
