The Curling World Championship for Men 1997 (official: Ford World Men's Curling Championship in 1997 ) was the 39th staging (including Scotch Cup ) World Championships in curling of Lords. It was held from April 12th to 20th of that year in the Swiss federal city of Bern in the Allmend ice rink .
The World Curling Championships the men was in a round-robin tournament ( round-robin ) between the teams from Scotland , Canada , the United States , Germany , Sweden , Australia , the Switzerland , Denmark , Norway and Finland played out.
The games were scheduled for ten ends .
For the third time after 1973 and 1977 , Sweden finished a men's curling world championship as the winner. The final opponent was the German team, which led 2-1 stones until the seventh end. The preliminary decision fell in End 7, in which the Swedes were able to place four stones in the house. The final score was 6: 3 after nine ends. Germany also lost a World Cup final in the third attempt after 1983 and 1987 .
Scotland beat defending champions Canada 8: 4 in a duel for the bronze medal.
