Hvidovre Kommune [ ˈviðɔu̯ʁə ] is a Danish municipality in the Hovedstaden region .
Hvidovre is a south-western suburb of Copenhagen . It is nine minutes from the center of the Danish capital by S-Bahn . Administratively, Hvidovre belongs to the region Hovedstaden and is part of the capital region Hovedstadsområdet .
The municipality is 22.90 km² and has 53,527 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). Before 1970 it belonged to Harde Smørum Herred in København's office and became a separate municipality in the reduced København's office with the Danish administrative reform in 1970 . In 1974 Avedøre Sogn , which had previously belonged to Glostrup Municipality , was transferred to Hvidovre Municipality. During the 2007 municipal reform , the Hvidovre municipality was assigned to the Hovedstaden region .
In 1929, a 3500 year old sword from the Bronze Age was unearthed in Hvidovre . The city is home to the largest Danish solar company, Gaia Solar . The film studios and the headquarters of the Danish film production company Zentropa are located in Hvidovre, as well as the home ground of the Hvidovre IF football club, the Hvidovre Stadium . The space company Orbex is also developing rocket engines there.
