Balthasar Erdmann (Imperial) Count of Promnitz (born January 9, 1659 in Sorau , Niederlausitz ; † May 3, 1703 , probably in Sorau, Niederlausitz) was Baron of Pless and Lord of Sorau , Triebel , Naumburg am Bober , Drehna , Wehrau , Klitschdorf , Halbau , Kuhnau and Burau in Lausitz and Silesia .

Life

Balthasar Erdmann was a son of Erdmann I. Leopold Graf von Promnitz. After the father's early death in 1664, his brother Ulrich Hipparchos von Promnitz was appointed guardian of the children. Balthasar Erdmann received an intensive religious education from his tutors, who were all theologians. In 1672 he attended the Viadrina University in Frankfurt an der Oder , then went to the University of Tübingen . In 1676 he made a trip to Geneva , then through Italy .

In 1679, Balthasar Erdmann took over the lordships of Sorau and Triebel in Niederlausitz and Pless and Naumburg in Silesia from his father's inheritance. Its seat remained the castle in Sorau. In 1682 he married Emilia Agnes von Reuss zu Schleiz . With her pietistic influences came into the family.

In 1682, Balthasar Erdmann von Promnitz acquired the Halbau and Cunau estates in Lower Silesia, 1684 the Burau, 1690 the Wehrau and Klitschdorf in Upper Lusatia and 1697 the Drehna rulership in Lower Lusatia.

In 1698 there was a so-called terministic dispute between the Sorau deacon, Johann Georg Böse, who he was a sponsor, and representatives of Lutheran Orthodoxy .

Balthasar Erdmann von Promnitz died on May 3rd 1703 after a serious illness at the age of 44 and was buried on December 18th in the church of Sorau.

Marriage and offspring

Balthasar Erdmann von Promnitz was married to Emilie Agnes von Reuss zu Schleiz since 1682. They had the following children

  • Friedrich von Promnitz (1684–1712), Mr. von Drehna and Halbau
  • Heinrich von Promnitz (1686–1700)

  • Philippine Henriette Theresia von Promnitz (1689–1689)
