Klitschdorf was founded in 1297 on the Queis as a border fortified castle Bolkos I von Schweidnitz . In 1391 it came into the possession of the von Rechenberg family, originally from Saxony . For almost 300 years, the Klitschdorf and Wehrau estates remained in the hands of the von Rechenberg family. The main building was built in 1585 in the Renaissance style. In 1611 the Bohemian King Matthias Klitschdorf paid a visit.

In 1767, after several changes of ownership, the castle came into the hands of Count Hans Christian zu Solms-Baruth . In 1810 the large ballroom with Empire furnishings was built. In 1881 the Berlin architects Heinrich Kayser and Karl von Großheim began the extensive expansion of Klitschdorf. They mixed English Gothic with Italian Renaissance and French Mannerism in the style of the time. Eduard Petzold designed the 80 hectare English landscape garden at the same time. In 1906 Kaiser Wilhelm II stayed in Klitschdorf to hunt.

In 1920 Friedrich Hermann zu Solms-Baruth inherited the castle. During the Nazi era, Solms-Baruth was involved in the Kreisau Circle in the resistance against National Socialism. After the unsuccessful attack on Adolf Hitler, Solms-Baruth was arrested and his property confiscated.

After 1945

The palace building survived the Second World War almost unscathed, but the interior was looted by Soviet soldiers. In 1949 a fire destroyed the carriage hall and servants' rooms. In the 1950s, the local forest authority was located in the castle, which seriously neglected the interior and destroyed the stucco and tiled stoves. The horse cemetery of the former owners has been preserved.

In 1971 the Technical University of Wroclaw acquired the castle and tried in vain to save Klitschdorf Castle. After the political change, a company from Wroclaw took over the building and expanded it into a luxurious conference and relaxation center, which opened in 1999.

The castle park is a member of the garden culture trail on both sides of the Neisse . This improves the possibilities of care ( park seminars ) and the prospects for funding and tourist development.
