from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The garden culture path on both sides of the Neisse is a project of the Deutsche Gartenbau-Gesellschaft 1822 eV (DGG) to network the citizens, administrations, organizations and companies who are locally involved in the gardens and parks and to link existing horticultural offers and initiatives. The cooperation improves tourism development, achieves national and European funding and thus helps to maintain and improve regional gardening and architecture together in high quality.

history

Concept and beginnings

In 2004 the development association “ Fürst-Pückler-Region eV ” took over the idea of the garden culture paths from the German Horticultural Society 1822 eV and anchored the regional expression in the garden network Germany eV Parking seminars carried out. The project has been led by a German-Polish project management team since mid-2009 with the support of the Upper Lusatia Culture Area - Lower Silesia Association (in accordance with the Saxon Culture Area Act ) and the Upper Lusatia-Lower Silesia Sparkasse . Through the cooperation with several German and Polish partners, the EU funding for the support of the professional park maintenance, development of the planning basis and a garden tourism concept should be achieved. Also in 2009, Countess Bettina Bernadotte was won as patron and applications were made for four park maintenance support points (in the district of Görlitz, in the district of Bautzen as well as in Boleslawec (Bunzlau) and Jelenia Gora (Hirschberg)) through the German-Polish funding program Objective 3 (tourism marketing and care management). A park manager, an assistant, two to three gardeners, as well as supported workers from the respective municipalities were planned. Also in 2009 the municipality of Boxberg signed a cooperation agreement for the parks Nochten and Uhyst.

Foundation of the association and first EU funding

In May 2010, 16 members founded the association "Garden culture path on both sides of the Neisse" (now: Garden culture path Oberlausitz eV ) based in Bad Muskau in order to anchor the planned projects in the region, to promote contact with one another and in the future to be effective as a cross-border association. In March 2012, two large EU projects were approved: 461,200 euros for the parks, gardens and their cross-border tourist marketing, a further 574,000 euros for the expansion of the hiking and cycling network and ten additional water entry and exit points for canoeists along the Lusatian rivers Neisse. However, in contrast to the Polish side, the funds for workers (e.g. for exposing lines of sight) were not available on the German side.

First successes

The maintenance status of the parks and gardens and the training of the local actors varied widely. With the approval of the EU funding, two pre-planned projects could be tackled. The development company Lower Silesian Upper Lusatia (ENO) was won over as a partner for the first project “Maintenance and Planning” . "The aim of this project is the development of a uniform guideline for the maintenance and design of the parks", explains Thomas Vogel from the ENO of the regional newspaper " Lausitzer Rundschau ". In small groups, experts should examine concepts, test their suitability on site and develop a common standard for park and garden maintenance. The second project with the services for structural and labor market development Dresden GmbH (DSA) deals with tourism marketing . A common tourism and marketing concept also requires a common identification between the Polish and German parts, which still needs to be worked on. Information material is to be developed on this basis. 2013 was created in collaboration with Foundation Lower Silesian forests , the Foundation Parks and Gardens in the Jelenia Góra Valley and the marketing society Upper-Silesia mbH (MGO) a map showing the 33 gardens and seven geographical routes: Hirschberger valley, green beads of the Lower Silesian forests, along the Neisse, heathland, between Dresden and Görlitz, castle parks - Bautzen, Zittau Mountains.

Balance after 5 years

In September 2015, in its 5th year of existence, the sponsoring association was renamed "Gartenkulturpfad Oberlausitz eV". Even if not all hopes were fulfilled, the result is positive: very successful lobbying work for the parks and gardens of nature, which are seen as living monuments; the association has published a guide for park maintenance that contains important suggestions and information; “Monument conservation target concepts” worth 10,000 euros each are already available for twelve historic parks and gardens. The proven parking seminars are to be continued. Audi guides and a mobile phone-readable QR code at the park entrance are planned.
