Lomnitz is a district of the municipality of Wachau in the district of Bautzen .

The place Lomnitz with 1,454 inhabitants (1998) is about 25 kilometers northeast of Dresden .

history

The Lomnitz district was first mentioned in a document dated October 27, 1313. The center was formed from the manor grounds , the complex around the community center (Volkshaus) and the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Finds such as a burial ground suggest settlement as early as the Bronze Age .

Today's manor existed from 1563 as Vorwerk von Wachau until it functioned as an independent manor in 1602. It was expropriated in 1949 and then served as residential space. After the fall of the Wall in 1990, a lot has changed in Lomnitz as well. In addition to the laying of the drinking and sewage pipes, the streets were renewed and a new building area was opened up. On January 1st, 1998 Lomnitz was incorporated into Wachau .

There used to be three water mills in Lomnitz , of which only the bush mill on the Kleine Röder is still functional and can be visited.

A village church was first mentioned around 1495. The present church was rebuilt in 1840/1841 by the master builder Christian Gottlieb Ziller , the much older rectory probably dates from 1781.
