The statute for the municipal savings bank Görlitz was passed on May 15, 1850. On February 6, 1851, the first branch was opened in Langenstrasse. The savings bank was housed on the ground floor of the pawn shop. Around 1860 the Sparkasse moved into premises in the town hall on Untermarkt . At the same time, in addition to this main cash desk on the Untermarkt, the first branches that pharmacists and merchants operated on the side were also established. After the turn of the century, the Sparkasse received its own domicile on Berliner Strasse. The representative building on the corner of Postplatz was built between 1909 and 1913 . The main cash desk remained in the town hall until 1930. On January 1, 1939, parts of the Oberlausitzer Provinzialsparkasse were incorporated into the Stadtsparkasse. After the end of the Second World War , the savings bank in the GDR became a centrally managed branch bank . Only after the fall of the Wall did the local savings banks experience a renaissance in 1990. In 1992 the Stadtsparkasse Görlitz merged with the Kreissparkassen Niesky and Weißwasser to form the Lower Silesian Sparkasse . The seat of the Lower Silesian Sparkasse was Görlitz.
