Matthias Grundmann

Matthias Grundmann (* 1959 ) is a German sociologist .

Since 2000 he has been professor of socialization at the Institute for Sociology at the Westfälische-Wilhelms-Universität Münster. His focus is on socialization , education , sustainability and community research.

Matthias Grundmann is co-editor of the journal for the sociology of education and socialization and advisory board of the journal Soziale Passagen .

Career

Grundmann studied sociology, history, and religious studies from 1980 to 1986 at the Gerhard Mercator University in Duisburg. Between 1986 and 1990 Grundmann u. a. in Duisburg, Berlin and Chapel Hill (North Carolina) on his dissertation. 1986 to 1987 he worked as a research assistant at the University of Duisburg. From 1987 to 1990 he was employed in the research area of ​​education, work and social development at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development . He completed his doctorate in sociology at the Free University of Berlin in 1990 . From 1990 to 1997 he worked as a research assistant in the research area Development and Socialization at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development. Between 1998 and 1999 he initially held a professorship for general sociology at the Technical University of Chemnitz . In 1999 he was visiting professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin. In 2000 he was appointed university professor at the University of Münster. Since 2002 he has also held the office of managing director of the Institute for Sociology at the University of Münster.

Working group for community and sustainability research

In 2014/15 Grundmann and Dieter Hoffmeister founded the working group for community and sustainability research at the University of Münster. According to the self-description, its purpose is to bundle and expand research and teaching activities in the field of community and socio-ecological socialization research, urban and regional research and interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary transformation research.

Since 2015, Matthias Grundmann and the working group for community and sustainability research have published the digital publication series Sociology and Sustainability.
