North Bay [ ˈnɔɹθˌbeɪ̯ ] is a city in the Province of Ontario (Northeastern Ontario Region), Canada . North Bay owes its name to its position on the shores of Lake Nipissing and is the capital of the Nipissing District . The total area of the city is 314.92 km².
Geography and climate
North Bay is located approximately 345 kilometers north of Toronto , Ontario . The city lies on the Canadian Shield and therefore has a different geography than southern Ontario. This location results in a more rugged landscape of the surrounding area. North Bay is on the watershed of the Ottawa River and the Great Lakes . In the city there are branches of the highways 11 and 17 ; This makes North Bay a main route of transportation for Northern Ontario. It is the southernmost stop on the Ontario Northland Railway . North Bay has an air connection through Jack Garland Airport.
The climate in North Bay is typical of northern Ontario, namely generally drier than that of southern Ontario due to the greater distance to the Great Lakes . Due to the rather cold Lake Nipissing , the climate of the region is cooler in comparison.

Economy and Infrastructure
North Bay is more diverse economically than many other cities in Northern Ontario, although a large proportion of the city's jobs are in the public service sectors of nature, education and politics, which are the majority of the city's employers. The service industry, tourism and transportation also play significant roles in the city's economy. North Bay has three shopping centers that serve North Bay and the surrounding communities. The Northgate Shopping Center is the largest mall in town with over 100 shops, restaurants and cafes and is located on Fisher Street . Another mall is the North Bay Mall , which is located on Lakeshore Drive .
North Bay is also the headquarters of CFB North Bay (Wing 22), a North American Aerospace Defense Command control center, whose work was previously carried out in a building located deep in the ground, similar to the famous Cheyenne Mountain , but in a much smaller manner Scope. In October 2006, the location was moved from the cave to the Daniel L. Pitcher Building near the north entrance of the old underground facility. Although Wing 22 used to be a large-scale station, it only employs around 500 people today. North Bay is also home to The Algonquin Regiment, A Coy, a reserve unit of the Canadian Army. The B Coy is based in Timmins , Ontario .
The Aton-daughter JS Redpath Holding, a service provider in mine construction with more than 4,600 employees, is based in North Bay.
In recent years, North Bay has grown as a center of arts and culture in Ontario because of its bustling arts scene of painters, musicians, actors, and writers. In 2004, the television station TV Ontario named North Bay as one of the three most important cities for art in Ontario in its "Studio 2" show.
education
North Bay is home to Nipissing University, founded in 1992, and Canadore College, founded in 1967. Approximately 7,000 full-time students and more than 1,000 part-time students are enrolled in the two post-secondary institutions that share a campus to the west of the city.
