The Ontario Northland Transportation Commission (Ontario Northland) is an authority of the province of Ontario founded in 1902 , the tasks of the transport connections and infrastructure in Northern Ontario provides.

Rail transport

Polar Bear Express at Moosonee

Ontario Northland owns and maintains a rail network of approximately 1,100 km. In addition to using the network for rail freight transport, passenger transport is also operated on the Moosonee - Cochrane route ( Polar Bear Express , Monday to Friday once a day).

Passenger traffic on the Cochrane - North Bay - Toronto (Northlander) connection was abandoned at the end of September 2012 for financial reasons and switched to bus services.

Bus transport

Ontario Northland operates intercity bus services to connect the sparsely populated northern Ontario to the more densely populated south of the province as well as feeder lines to the Polar Bear Express . Another service offered is the taking of parcels on the buses.

telecommunications

Subsidiary ontera , which provides telecommunications infrastructure and services to the eastern part of Northern Ontario, was sold by the province to the telecommunications company Bell Aliant in 2014 .
