Raymond Giroux (born July 20, 1976 in North Bay , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who was last under contract with Metallurg Novokuznetsk in the Continental Hockey League .

Career

Giroux began his career in 1994 at Yale University , for which he played in ECAC Hockey , a division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In his debut year, he was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL Entry Draft in the eighth round in a total of 202nd place. After a total of four seasons in the Yale jersey, in which he had received numerous nominations in selection teams, he switched to the American Hockey League in 1998 . There he ran for the Lowell Lock Monsters , where he was the top defender in the first year and was invited to the AHL All-Star Classic for the first time in 2000 . During the two seasons, the left-shot was also 14 times for the New York Islanders from the National Hockey League on the ice and scored nine assists. This had signed him in the summer of 1998 for a draft suffrage for the Flyers.

In the 2000/01 season Giroux moved to Europe, initially to HIFK Helsinki , before returning to Finland to Jokerit Helsinki via AIK Solna . After that year he went back to North America and hired there between 2001 and 2005 with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , Albany River Rats and Houston Eros . During this time, the Canadian received two more invitations to the AHL All-Star Classic and a nomination for the AHL's First All-Star Team.

In 2005 Ak Bars Kazan signed the defender from the Russian Super League . Giroux celebrated numerous successes with Kazan. In its first year, the team was able to win the Russian championship . The championship win resulted in participation in the IIHF European Champions Cup 2007 , which Kazan also won. Just a year later, the Russians were also able to win the IIHF Continental Cup . The Canadian stayed in Kazan until the summer of 2008 before accepting an offer from SKA Saint Petersburg . In the game year 2008/09 he was one of the best defenders in the league and was consequently on the starting line-up of the world selection in the first All-Star Game of the newly founded Continental Hockey League . In October 2010 he moved to HK Traktor Tscheljabinsk within the KHL , for which he played until 2012. In July 2012, his current contract with HK Traktor was terminated. After he had completed five games for HC Ambrì-Piotta in the National League A in the spring of 2013 , Giroux was signed by Metallurg Novokuznetsk from the Continental Hockey League in June 2013 .

In 2014 he ended his career.
