Jesse Cockney (born July 26, 1989 in Yellowknife ) is a Canadian cross-country skier .

Career

Cockney has mainly participated in the Nor Am Cup since 2006. He has had 16 victories so far and won the overall cup standings in the 2012/13 season . In the 2011/12 season he was third and in 2017/18 second in the overall ranking (as of the end of the 2019/20 season). He ran his first World Cup race in January 2011 in Otepää , which he finished classically with 68th place over 15 km. He got his first World Cup points in December 2012 in Canmore with ninth place in the sprint. His best placings at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi were 53rd place in the sprint and 12th place in the relay. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun in 2015 , he finished 57th in the 15 km freestyle, 49th place in the sprint and 13th place in the team sprint. In February 2017 he won 65th place over 15 km classic and 47th place in sprint at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti . The following month he came in 68th place at the World Cup Finals in Québec . At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he finished 35th in the sprint.

At the Canadian Cross Country Ski Championships in Corner Brook in 2014 , Cockney won gold over 10 km classic and in 2018 in Thunder Bay gold in the pursuit. In 2015 and 2018 he became national sprint champion.
