Spencer O'Brien (born February 2, 1988 in Alert Bay ) is a Canadian snowboarder . She starts in slopestyle .

Career

O'Brien has been participating in TTR World Snowboard Tour competitions since 2005 . She achieved her first podium finish in March 2006 at the Burton US Open at Stratton Mountain Resort with second place. At the Winter X Games 2008 she won bronze in slopestyle. At the beginning of the 2008/09 season she took third place at the Burton New Zealand Open and second place in the Big Air competition at the Billabong SnowStock 08 in the Snow Park . This was followed by a win on the Winter Dew Tour in Breckenridge and two second places in the Tour on Mount Snow and Northstar-at-Tahoe . At the Winter X Games 2009 she won silver in the Slopestyle. The following season she took first place in Snowbasin and third place on Mount Snow on the Winter Dew Tour . She finished the Dew Tour in third place in the slopestyle classification. In the 2010/11 season she took second place on the Winter Dew Tour in Killington and third place in Ogden . At The Oakley Arctic Challenge 2011 in Oslo she came in second place. The following season she won the Winter Dew Tour in Breckenridge and Snowbasin and the O'Neill Evolution 2012 in Davos . At the 2012 Snowboard World Championships in Oslo, she won gold in slopestyle. In March 2012 she won silver in slopestyle at the Winter X Games Europe 2012 in Tignes .

At the beginning of the 2012/13 season, O'Brien took second place on the Winter Dew Tour in Breckenridge . In January 2013 she finished eighth at the US Snowboarding Grand Prix in Copper Mountain . This was also a FIS World Cup race and thus her first World Cup race. A week later she won gold in slopestyle at the 2013 Snowboard World Championships in Stoneham . In the same month, she won silver in slopestyle at the Winter X Games 2013 in Aspen . At the Burton US Open in Vail , she won in slopestyle. She finished the season in fifth place in the World Snowboard Tour Slopestyle Ranking. In January 2014, she won bronze in slopestyle at the Winter X Games .

2014 Winter Olympics

At her first Olympic participation in Sochi in 2014 , she came 12th in slopestyle. She reached second place at the Burton US Open 2014 in Vail . At the 2015 Burton US Open in Vail , she came third in slopestyle. At the beginning of the 2015/16 season, she came in second place in the Slopestyle of the Winter Dew Tour in Breckenridge . At the Winter X Games 2016 in Aspen , she won the gold medal in slopestyle. In February 2016 she came fourth in Big Air at the X-Games Oslo 2016. At the Snowboard World Championships 2016 in Yabuli , she took sixth place in Big Air competition and fourth place in Slopestyle. In the 2016/17 season she achieved three top ten placements in the World Cup, including second place in Slopestyle in Špindlerův Mlýn and 25th place in the Freestyle World Cup. She also finished third in the slopestyle season at the Burton US Open and fifth in both slopestyle and big air at the X-Games Norway 2017 in Hafjell .

Olympic Winter Games 2018

At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang in the Big Air, which was held for the first time as part of the Olympic snowboard competitions, the 30-year-old achieved ninth place behind Anna Gasser on February 22nd .
