Marie-Philip Poulin , married. Poulin-Nadeau , (born March 28, 1991 in Québec City , Québec ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who belongs to the Canadian women's national team and has played for Les Canadiennes de Montréal in the Canadian Women's Hockey League since 2015 . In her home country she is known as " Sidney Crosby of women's ice hockey" because of her style of play and her early successes .

Career

Marie-Philip Poulin started figure skating at the age of four, but two years later she wanted to play ice hockey just like her brother Pier-Alexandre. In 2005 and 2007 she took part in the national U18 championships with the Quebec team, and in 2007 for the province of Quebec in the Canada Winter Games . She then worked for the Stars de Montréal from the Canadian Women's Hockey League for two years and won the Clarkson Cup , the championship trophy of the CWHL , with them in March 2009 . During the 2009/10 season she suspended the league game operations and took part in the centralized preparation of Team Canada for the 2010 Winter Olympics. During this time she lived with Kim St-Pierre , Caroline Ouellette and Charline Labonté , who became not only athletic but also personal mentors for her.

Success in the NCAA

In 2010 Poulin began studying at the Faculty of Education at Boston University and played at the same time for their ice hockey team, the Terriers , in Hockey East . In her first season there, she received many personal awards as a freshman and was the first Terriers player to be awarded Hockey East Rookie of the Year . She was also nominated for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award .

In the following season, Poulin missed 18 games due to an injury. In both 2011 and 2013 she reached the finals of the NCAA Frozen Four with the Boston Terriers and was elected to several All-Star teams by Hockey-East and the NCAA in 2013.

International

Poulin began her international career in the U18 national team, with which she won two silver medals at junior world championships. She was the top scorer of the tournament with 14 points at the U18 tournament in 2008 and was named the best striker. In 2009 she made her debut in the women's national team and took part in the 2009 World Cup. She won the silver medal with the national team.

In 2010, at the age of 18, she was the youngest player on her team, she won the gold medal with the national team at the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver . She contributed five goals and two assists to this success, scoring the only two goals in the final against the USA. In recognition of the achievements shown, she was elected to the all-star team of the tournament.

In 2011 she won another silver medal with Team Canada at the World Cup , and the gold medal at the World Cup a year later . In the 2013 world championships, Poulin shone with 12 points from 5 games, making it the top scorer of the tournament and consequently being named Most Valuable Player and Best Striker and elected to the All-Star Team. On February 20, 2014, she scored two goals for Team Canada in the Olympic final against the USA and achieved another Olympic victory with this .
