The 15th Women's Ice Hockey World Championships of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF were the Ice Hockey World Championships of 2012 . Between March 25 and April 15, 2012, a total of 32 national teams took part in the five tournaments of the top division and divisions I and II.

The world champion was the tenth time the Canadian team , which defeated the arch-rivals from the United States 5: 4 in extra time in the final . The German team managed by the rise in the previous year in the league in the top division and finished seventh, which Switzerland won by the victory in the match for third place its first World Cup bronze medal at all, confirming the upward trend of the previous year. Austria finished fourth in Division IA and came twelfth in the final ranking of the World Cup.

Participants, venues and periods

The previous divisions I and II became division I groups A and B. The previous divisions III and IV became division II groups A and B. Division IV was to be replaced by qualification for division II group B.

The women's world championship was held from April 7th to 14th, 2012 in the US city ​​of Burlington in the state of Vermont . The game was played in the Gutterson Fieldhouse (4,035 seats) at the University of Vermont and in the Cairns Arena in South Burlington with 600 seats.

After the group matches of the preliminary round, the group first and second in group A qualify directly for the semi-finals. The third and fourth of the same group reach the quarter-finals.
