The South Korean national ice hockey team is South Korea 's national ice hockey team in women's ice hockey . In January 2011 the team is in 28th place in the IIHF world rankings .

history

The South Korean women's ice hockey team first took part in a women's world championship in 2004 . When they first participated in the World Cup, the team was the last of Division III to go straight to the newly founded Division IV. In this, the South Koreans managed to get promoted back to Division III, but the team was only able to stay in this for two years and rose again to Division IV at the 2008 World Cup .

Since divisions III to V were not played at the 2009 World Cup and in 2010 there was no women's World Cup anyway due to the hosting of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver , South Korea will play a World Cup again in 2011 for the first time in three years and competed in Division IV, where she was able to establish herself with second place. Due to the cancellation of several teams, they played the following year in the higher division II B , where they reached third place.

In addition to participating in the World Championships, the South Korean women's national team is actively involved in games within Asia and regularly takes part in the Asian Winter Games, in which, despite the small number of participants, they have not yet won any medals. In November 2010, South Korea took part in the early stage of the IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia 2011 , but was clearly defeated by the two internationally successful opponents China and Japan and finished the tournament in third and last place.
