The 17th women's ice hockey world championships of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF were the ice hockey world championships of 2014 . Between March 19 and April 12, 2014, a total of 28 national teams took part in the five tournaments of Divisions I and II as well as the qualification.
Although there have never been any world championships in an Olympic ice hockey tournament, the World Ice Hockey Federation IIHF hosted world championship games for the first time in 2014. Only the tournament of the top division was still canceled. To determine the relegated and the riser into the top division, the last placed of carrying the Olympic Hockey Tournament of the Olympic Winter Games in Russian Sochi and the winner of Division IA a play-off -Round in the mode best-of-three from.

The promotion games for eighth place in the top division for the 2015 World Cup were played in best-of-three mode. Here met Japan , as the last placed the Olympic Hockey tournament of the Winter Olympics in the Russian Sochi , as well as the Czech Republic , the winner of Division IA, each other. The team that was able to win two of a maximum of three games stayed in the or rose to the World Cup group, the loser took part in Division IA the following year.
The games took place between 8 and 11 November 2014 Japanese Yokohama in Kanagawa Prefecture instead. The venue was the 18,500 seat Yokohama Arīna . Japan qualified for the top division with a narrow 2-1 win in the third game of the series, while the Czech women remained in division I.
