Winner: World Championship canceled

The 8th Women's Ice Hockey World Championships of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF were the ice hockey world championships of 2003 . Between March 9 and April 9, 2003, a total of 24 national teams were to take part in a total of four tournaments in the top division, division I, division II and division III.

After the Olympic year of 2002, no world champion among women was determined in 2003 either. The tournament in the top division was held in the Chinese capital Beijing, where the life-threatening pneumonia SARS had broken out at the time of the event, as in large parts of China . The World Ice Hockey Federation therefore decided to cancel the tournament. In the downstream divisions, the respective tournaments took place as planned. Since no relegation from the top division was determined due to the non-execution, nine teams should take part in the following World Cup. Accordingly, other teams from the lower divisions moved up, so that although there were promoters to the next higher season in each division, there were no relegated teams.
