The Group A tournament of Division I was held from April 7 to 13, 2013 in Stavanger , Norway . The venue for the tournament was the DNB Arena , which opened in 2012, has a capacity of 4,500 and is otherwise home to the Stavanger Oilers . A total of 2,803 spectators attended the 15 tournament games, which corresponds to an average of 186 per game.

The Japanese national team secured the tournament victory with four wins and thus rose again to the top division. The toughest rival of the Japanese turned out to be Denmark , who had the best chance of promotion after a 2-1 win against Japan on matchday two, but lost them with a 2-4 defeat against Austria the following day. Since the Japanese team won all other games after the defeat against the Danes, they finished first and thus returned to the top division, to which they had last belonged in 2009. Last place went to the Latvian national team with five defeats , which was relegated to Group B of Division I.
