The 19th Ice Hockey World Championships for women of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF were the ice hockey world championships of 2016 . Between February 29 and April 10, 2016, a total of 36 national teams took part in the five tournaments of the top division and divisions I to II. In addition, four national teams took part in a qualifying tournament for Division II B, which was held in December 2015 in the Bulgarian capital Sofia .

The world champion was the seventh time the United States team , which defeated Canada 1-0 in the final . The German team took first place in the tournament of Division IA and thus rose again to the top division, while Switzerland placed seventh in the relegation round. The national team of Austria reached third place in Division IA and came eleventh in the overall ranking of the world championship.

The top division of the world championship was held from March 28 to April 4, 2016 in the Canadian city ​​of Kamloops in the province of British Columbia . The game was played in the Sandman Center (5,464 seats) and the McArthur Island Center with 3,000 seats.

Eight national teams took part in the tournament, playing in two performance-graded groups of four teams each. The four semi-finalists from the previous year made up group A. The numbers in brackets indicate the positions in the IIHF world rankings .
