Career

Christine Meier comes from the offspring of EHC Bülach , whose women's team moved to EHC Illnau-Effretikon in 1996 . This is how Meier came to the club, which is abbreviated to EIE . During the 1999/2000 season she made her debut at the age of 13 years for the EHC Illnau-Effretikon in the performance class A . In 2004 the club was relegated to the second division (LKB) . In the 2004/05 season Meier was then top scorer and player of the year of the LKB and led her team to promotion to the LKA. In 2006 the EIE withdrew from gaming operations and Meier moved to SC Reinach for a year. She then played for the ZSC Lions women's team and in the 2008/09 season for the women of AIK Solna in the Riksserien , with which she won the Swedish championship at the end of the season.

She then returned to the ZSC, with which she won the Swiss championship in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2016 and was top scorer in class A several times. In 2013 she married the former assistant coach of the national team Daniel Hüni and then carried her husband's last name. In 2016, she divorced her husband and Christine took her maiden name again.

After two further Swiss championships in 2017 and 2018, Meier ended her career in order to concentrate more on her job and her private life.

International

Christine Meier was part of the women's B national team in the 1999/2000 season. At the age of 14, she completed her first women's world championship in 2001 , where she was promoted from Division I to the top division with the women's national team . She received further appearances at world championships in 2004, 2005 , 2007 , 2008, 2009 and 2011. Highlights of her national team career were two participations in Winter Olympic Games - 2006 in Turin and 2010 in Vancouver .

Meier played her last international match in January 2012 in Füssen before she concentrated on her private career and the ZSC Lions. By then she had collected 182 internationals in 12 years.

With the engagement of her long-time teammate Daniela Diaz as national coach, she, who played under the name Christine Hüni at the time, returned to the national team in December 2015: «Daniela was indeed the main reason, on the other hand, with my experience, I can help the team to get involved in the Olympic Qualifying games and that excites me very much. "

At the 2016 World Cup , she was the second best scorer of the tournament behind Hilary Knight and was the first Swiss outfield player ever to be elected to the All-Star team of the World Cup. At the end of her career, she took part in the 2018 Winter Olympics with the national team , where she became the best template provider.

She made a total of 240 international matches for Switzerland.
