Daniela Diaz (born June 16, 1982 in Baar ZG ) is a former Swiss ice hockey player of Spanish descent who has been the head coach of the Swiss women's ice hockey team since December 2015 . She also trained the ZSC Lions women between 2010 and 2016 . Her brother Raphael is also a hockey player.

Career

Daniela Diaz grew up near the then Herti stadium in Zug and joined EV Zug at the age of 13 . Until 2006 she played for the women's team of the club and won a total of four championship titles with them. Before the 2004/05 season she moved to HC Lugano , but returned to her home club in December 2004.

She also played in over 100 international matches for the Swiss national ice hockey team , including the 2006 Winter Olympics and five world championships.

After the Olympic Winter Games, she decided to go abroad and played for the Etobicoke Dolphins ( Toronto ) in what was then the only professional women's ice hockey league in the world, the National Women's Hockey League . After this year in Canada, she returned to Switzerland and let her career at KSC Küssnacht end.

She gained her first experience as a trainer at EHC Basel. In May 2010 she became the head coach of the ZSC Lions women and won the first women's championship in club history with this team at the end of the 2010/11 season. At the European Women Champions Cup 2012 , the Lions women took second place behind Tornado Moskovskaya Oblast . In addition, the Lions women defended their championship titles in 2012 and 2013 and won the EWHL Supercup in 2013 .

In December 2015, she was introduced by the Swiss Ice Hockey Association as the new women's national coach, replacing Gian-Marco Crameri in this role. After the 2015/16 season, in which she won another championship title with the ZSC Lions , she resigned from her coaching position with the Lions. A month later, she received a contract extension as national coach, whereby she is the first full-time national coach (-in) in the history of Swiss women's ice hockey.
