Tanja Eisenschmid (born April 20, 1993 in Marktoberdorf ) is a German ice hockey player who has been playing for the Minnesota Whitecaps since 2016 . Her younger siblings Nicola and Markus are also ice hockey players.

Career

Tanja Eisenschmid stood on ice skates for the first time at the age of three, took part in the ESV Kaufbeuren running school and was accepted into the club's team of youngsters at the age of six. There she went through the male youth teams and played between 2006 and 2011 in the school league for the club, two seasons with her brother Markus. At the same time, she was used in the 2010/11 season for the club's women's team in the Bavarian State League. She then moved to ECDC Memmingen together with Daria Gleißner , for which she was active in the women's ice hockey Bundesliga in the 2011/12 season . In 2012 she passed her A-levels at the Kaufbeuren technical college and then received a sports scholarship from the University of North Dakota . Until 2016 Eisenschmid played for the university's ice hockey team, the Fighting Sioux , in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association .

After completing her studies, Eisenschmid helped out in a game at ECDC Memmingen, but stayed in North America and played for the Minnesota Whitecaps , a league-independent women's ice hockey team.

International

Tanja Eisenschmid took part in the junior division at the U18 World Championships in 2009 , 2010 and 2011 .

At the 2011 Women's World Cup in Division I , she made her debut for the women's national team and made it back to the top division. At the 2012 Women's World Cup , she finished seventh with the national team, and fifth at the tournament the following year .

Private

Tanja Eisenschmid has two siblings who also play ice hockey. Her sister Nicola is active in the women's Bundesliga for the ECDC Memmingen and is also a member of the national team. Her brother Markus Eisenschmid also played for the ESVK until 2013, before he switched to the Medicine Hat Tigers from the Western Hockey League and was later contracted by the Canadiens de Montréal . He also played for the German U20 national team .
