The German national ice hockey team for women is a selection of German women players made by the national coach . It represents the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB) on an international level, for example at the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship , the Winter Olympic Games and the Nations Cup .

history

The women's first international match took place on December 3, 1988 in Geretsried against Switzerland. The DEB selection was defeated by the guests 5: 6, but was able to celebrate the first victory in the game after that against the same opponent. By May 5, 2011, the women's national team had played 369 games, including 162 wins, 27 draws and 180 defeats.

In 1990 , a German women's team took part in an ice hockey world championship for the first time and took seventh place out of a total of eight participating national teams in Ottawa, Canada . Until 2008 the team competed in the A-World Championship without interruption, but at this year's tournament in Harbin , China , the DEB women finished ninth and last place and thus relegated to the second-class Division I for the first time in the association's history .

In 2002 , the German women's national team qualified for an Olympic ice hockey tournament for the first time, and at the Games in Salt Lake City , the team took sixth place. In 2006 in Turin the team was able to improve by one place, but in November 2008 they failed in a qualifying tournament for the 2010 Games in Vancouver, Canada, played in Bad Tölz . In February 2013 the team won the decisive qualifying tournament against China , Kazakhstan and the Czech Republic and qualified for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi . Four years later, the team failed to qualify for the 2018 Winter Olympics . In April 2017, the team made it to the semi-finals for the first time at a World Cup, at the tournament in the USA, they met the hosts of the US women's national ice hockey team .
