Benjamin Hinterstocker (born November 26, 1979 in Berlin ) is a former German ice hockey player who was active during his career for the Kassel Huskies , the Eisbären Berlin , the Kölner Haie and the Hamburg Freezers in the German Ice Hockey League .

Player career

In the 1996/97 season , Hinterstocker played for the first time in the professional field ( 2nd Bundesliga ) for SC Riessersee . After a year with the upper division ESC Dorfen , he returned for another season to the second division from Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In the summer of 1999 , the winger moved for the first time to the German Ice Hockey League with the Kassel Huskies. There he played a total of 23 games and scored an assist .

Further stations, each one year old, were the Eisbären Berlin and the Kölner Haie, with whom he won the German championship in 2002 . From 2002 to 2005 he played again for Riessersee, as well as for SC Bietigheim-Bissingen and Moskitos Essen in the 2nd Bundesliga. For the 2005/06 season Hinterstocker signed a contract with the Hamburg Freezers. The offensive player was then under contract for two years in Hamburg .

As a teenager, Hinterstocker took part in several tournaments with DEB selection teams. At the European Youth Championships in 1996, 1997 and 1999 he was also on the ice for the national teams, as at the Junior World Championships in 1997, 1998 and 1999. In the senior national team , however, he was not appointed.

Coaching career

From January 2009, Hinterstocker was Peter Kathan's senior assistant coach for the German women's ice hockey team .

In the 2012/13 season Hinterstocker was head coach at the ECC Preussen Juniors Berlin , but was replaced by Ivan Horák on January 22, 2013 .

As the head coach in charge of the U18 women's selection, Hinterstocker missed direct promotion to the top division at the U18 World Championship (1st division) in Füssen in 2014 after the DEB's U18 selection from the top division in Vierumäki (Finland) Year earlier (2013).

Between 2014 and December 2018, Hinterstocker was the responsible head coach of the German women's ice hockey team, which under his leadership at the 2015 World Cup in Malmö (Sweden) was relegated without a win in the main round and after losing three relegation games against Japan from the top division of the IIHF to the 1st division . In 2016 he was promoted back to the top division with the women's team and with fourth place at the 2017 World Cup, the best placement in the history of the DEB selection. At the end of 2018, Hinterstocker ended his work at DEB.
