Julia Zorn (born February 6, 1990 in Graefelfing ) is a German ice hockey player who began her career as a goalkeeper and has been a striker since 2009. Since 2003 she has been playing for the ESC Planegg in the women's ice hockey Bundesliga .

Career

Julia Zorn learned to play ice hockey at the age of six. Her first club were the Wanderers Germering , where she ran through the male junior teams. At the same time, she was used from the 2003/04 season for the women's team of ESC Planegg in the women's ice hockey Bundesliga . In addition, she was appointed to the U18 national team for the first time in 2006.

During the 2008/09 season she decided to switch from the goalkeeper to the forward position because she “didn't have fun in goal anymore” . "I noticed that the game in the field fills me with more joy and I really wanted to do it."

Between 2007 and 2009 she was active alongside ESC Planegg at EV Landsberg 2000 in the youth Bundesliga, then at EC Peiting in the junior Bundesliga. At EC Peiting she played both as a goalkeeper and in attack. During this time, she won several German championship titles with ESC Planegg , including five championship titles in a row from 2011 to 2015, the championship of the Elite Women's Hockey League in 2009/10 and the EWHL Super Cup in 2012 and 2014 .

Julia Zorn studied Scientific Fundamentals of Sports at the Technical University of Munich and finished her studies in 2017 with a master's degree in "Diagnostics and Training".

International

Julia Zorn took part in the junior division as a goalkeeper at the U18 World Championships in 2008 .

Since 2009 she has been a permanent member of the women's national team and took part with them - now as a striker - in the Women's World Cup in Division I in 2009 and 2011 in Ravensburg. With a goal and an assist, she contributed to the promotion to the top division in 2011. In the Women's World Cup in 2012 she won the Women's National Team in seventh, the tournament the following year to fifth place. In 2017 she reached the semi-finals and fourth place with the national team , something no national team had ever achieved at a world championship before.
