EWHL Super Cup
The EWHL Super Cup is a competition in ice hockey of women , that of the Elite Women's Hockey League (EWHL) and thus significantly by the Austrian Ice Hockey Federation ÖEHV organized.
The competition was designed in January 2011 by ESC Planegg , OSC Berlin and the ZSC Lions in order to enable a better comparison between the top teams in their own and other European leagues. The first event took place in the 2011/2012 season, organized by the EWHL.
The first and second place finishers from the previous EWHL season, the two first place finishers in the German Bundesliga and the Swiss performance class A were selected to participate in the first event .
A single round is always played against everyone. For the German representatives, the first main round game of the women's ice hockey Bundesliga also counts as point games in the context of the EWHL Super Cup. In 2019 , a final four tournament took place for the first time, for which the four best teams in the single round were qualified. The EHV Sabers Wien team has the most tournament victories, winning the tournament in 2014/15, 2015/16 and 2018/19.
